Himachal Pradesh High Court Clerk/Proof Reader (2026) recruitment, the selection process is designed to test your general awareness, linguistic skills, and technical proficiency.

1. Screening Test (Objective Type)

This is an OMR-based qualifying exam used to shortlist candidates for the next phase.

  • Total Marks: 100 Marks (100 MCQs)
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • Language: English
  • Subjects:
    • General Knowledge (70 Marks): International (15), National (25), and Himachal Pradesh (30). Includes geography, culture, sports, history, and the H.P. Judiciary.
    • Computer Basics (10 Marks): MS Office, internet, and hardware.
    • Reasoning (20 Marks): Analogies, coding-decoding, and series.

2. Written Examination (Descriptive Type)

Only candidates who clear the screening test (usually in a 1:6 ratio) are called for this stage.

  • Total Marks: 80 Marks
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • Subjects:
    • English Essay: 500 words (25 Marks).
    • Hindi Essay: 500 words (25 Marks).
    • English to Hindi Translation: One paragraph (15 Marks).
    • Hindi to English Translation: One paragraph (15 Marks).
  • Qualifying Marks: A minimum of 45% aggregate is required to pass.

3. Typing Test (Skill Test)

This stage is purely qualifying in nature; marks are not added to the final merit list.

  • Speed: 30 WPM in English 
  • Duration: 10 Minutes.
  • Accuracy: Only 10% errors are permissible.

4. Personal Interview

The final stage to assess the candidate's personality and suitability for the judicial environment.

  • Total Marks: 10 marks.
  • Criteria: Marks are awarded based on General Awareness (4), Experience (3), and Educational Qualifications (3).

Final Merit List

The final selection is prepared by combining the marks from the Written Examination (80) and the Interview (10), totaling 90 marks.
