Military Exercises(October 2025 )

1. Major Tri-Service Exercises (Domestic)

India conducted a series of mega-drills to test "Multi-Domain Warfare" (integrating land, sea, air, cyber, and space).

• Exercise Trishul (Western Front):
  • Scope: Conducted along the western border (Rajasthan, Gujarat, and the Northern Arabian Sea).
  • Participants: Over 50,000 personnel, 20 warships, and 40+ fighter jets (including Rafale and Su-30MKI).
  • Goal: To validate joint operational capabilities and counter-access strategies near the Sir Creek and desert sectors.
• Exercise Astra Shakti (Ladakh):
  • Location: High-altitude terrain of Eastern Ladakh.
  • Focus: Showcase of long-range precision artillery, swarm drones, and counter-UAS (unmanned aerial systems) operations in extreme icy conditions.
• Exercise Poorvi Prachand Prahar (Eastern Front):
  • Focus: Strengthening the "Siliguri Corridor" (Chicken’s Neck) and the North-Eastern sector, focusing on rapid multi-layered weapon deployment.

2. Bilateral & Multilateral Exercises (International)

• Exercise Malabar 2025 (Quad Nations):
  • Dates: October 28 – November 18, 2025.
  • Location: Guam (US Territory) and the Philippine Sea.
  • Participants: Navies of India (INS Sahyadri), USA, Japan, and Australia.
  • Focus: High-end anti-submarine warfare (ASW), air defense, and surface firing drills to ensure a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific."
• Exercise Austra Hind 2025:
  • Dates: October 13–26, 2025.
  • Location: Perth, Australia.
  • Details: The 3rd edition of this bilateral army exercise focused on tactical operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain.
• Exercise Indra 2025 (India-Russia):
  • Dates: October 6–15, 2025.
  • Location: Mahajan Field Firing Range, Rajasthan.
  • Focus: Joint counter-terrorism operations under a United Nations mandate.
• Exercise JIMEX 2025 (Japan-India Maritime Exercise):
  • Dates: October 16–18, 2025 (Sea Phase).
  • Location: Off the coast of Yokosuka, Japan.
  • Participants: INS Sahyadri participated in advanced missile defense and replenishment at sea (RAS) drills.
• Exercise Samudra Shakti 2025 (India-Indonesia):
  • Dates: October 14–17, 2025.
  • Location: Visakhapatnam, India.
  • Focus: 5th edition of the bilateral naval exercise involving INS Kavaratti and Indonesian corvette KRI John Lie.

3. Exercise KONKAN-25 (India–UK)

• Dates: October 5–12, 2025 (Harbour & Sea Phase).
• Location: Off the Western Seaboard of India (Goa/Mumbai coast).
• Key Highlight: A historic "Carrier vs Carrier" drill. India’s indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant led the Indian contingent, while the UK was represented by the Carrier Strike Group (UK CSG 25), led by the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales.
• Significance: It was the largest edition of Konkan to date, including assets from Norway and Japan integrated within the UK's Strike Group.

4. Exercise KAZIND-2024 (India–Kazakhstan)

• Dates: September 30 – October 13, 2025 (Final phase in Oct).
• Location: Auli, Uttarakhand.
• Focus: Joint operations in mountainous and semi-urban terrain.
• Key Addition: For the first time, Air Force components from both countries were integrated into the exercise, moving beyond just a battalion-level army drill.

5. Coastal Security Exercise "Sagar Kavach"

• Status: Initial Planning Conference held on October 10, 2025.
• Agencies: Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Indian Navy, BSF, and State Marine Police.
• Context: While the physical drills were slated for November, the entire command-and-control framework for the Maharashtra and Goa coastlines was finalized in October to test the readiness against "Anti-National Elements" (ANEs).

6. JIMEX 2025 (Japan–India Maritime Exercise)

• Dates: Mid-October 2025.
• Location: Off the coast of Yokosuka, Japan.
• India's Participation: INS Sahyadri conducted complex surface and sub-surface drills with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).
